Diploma Level 3 in Energy Advice (Home)

How will the Energy Advice (Home) Diploma help your business?
Your employees will develop their skills in the energy efficiency sector and be fully equipped to deliver effective advice and guidance to tenants and residents.

Trained staff will be in a position to competently and confidently answer all customer questions about energy and energy efficiency – an area of increasing interest and concern among many people. Staff will be trained in dealing with complaints and issues relating to high fuel bills and can provide advice and guidance on energy efficiency.

Having trained staff on hand will lead to increased customer satisfaction as well as saving customers money and helping to ensure more sustainable homes.

The Energy Advice (Home) Diploma has two elements:
• Underpinning knowledge and skills
• Practical work-based competence assessment

Who is the Energy Advice (Home) Diploma suitable for?
This Diploma is aimed at individuals working in customer facing roles, dealing directly with tenants and residents. This will include:
• housing officers
• customer service staff
• those who work in the provision of energy or energy efficiency advice

This course is also ideal for financial inclusion staff expanding the range of advice they can provide to customers.

What will your staff learn?
The course covers the following key areas:
• Offering and providing energy efficiency advice and guidance to customers.
• Explaining and illustrating the benefits of energy efficiency.
• Gathering information relating to energy efficiency problems.
• Resolving basic energy efficiency problems for customer.
• Delivering solutions to basic energy efficiency problems.
• Providing solutions to adhere to the regulations in place.

This is a level 3 Diploma equivalent to an A-level.  We recommend approximately 9 months completing the course.  Time should be allotted within work (with managers approval) and the candidate should be prepared to spend at least 1 hour of personal time per week completing course work.  Assessment and competencies are carried out during the course.
Candidates must achieve 7 units in total – 5 mandatory units plus a choice of 2 from options as stated:

• Conform to general workplace safety
• Develop and maintain good working relationships
• Identify energy efficiency requirements of the customer
• Resolve basic energy efficiency problems
• Provide basic energy efficiency advice

Tailor your course to your experience and skills with a choice of two further units from the following:

• General uses of IT 1
• Demonstrate achievable improvements in energy efficiency
• Maintain energy efficiency reference information
• Survey for energy efficiency measures
• Estimate resources for energy efficiency measures
• Provide energy efficiency presentations
• Establish leads requiring energy efficiency advice
